Do you snooze the alarm over and over until you are forced to get out of bed, zombie your way to the coffee maker, and mindlessly make your way out the door with one minute to spare? If so, chances are you will go into the day feeling rushed or trying to “buy back” your time and carry out the rest of the day with a similar mindset. Great news, a healthy morning routine will fix that!

Starting your morning with a healthy routine will set the tone for your entire day. By completing a few low-stress, focused tasks you will set yourself up to be more positive, productive, and engaged.

1. drink water

The benefits of drinking water are undeniable. Hydration is essential to a healthy lifestyle and can be used immediately in the morning to kick start your metabolism and wake your body up without the need for caffeine. Do you often wake up craving water? Chances are, you are dehydrated and dehydration can lead to unclear thinking, mood change, and numerous different health issues.

Investing in a high-quality water bottle and keeping it with you at all times will ensure that you stay hydrated throughout your day. Fill it the night before and keep it in your refrigerator so it is ready for you the next morning.

2. skincare

This is not only useful to promote skin health but mental health as well. Skincare is calming, relaxing and can be a great way to start off your day.

Don’t get overwhelmed by thinking that you need to complete a 12-step process because that’s not the case. Your skincare routine does not have to be extensive but it is essential to, at minimum, cleanse and moisturize your skin daily.

3. get up and move

Many of the most successful people on this planet will directly attribute their productivity to completing some kind of exercise first thing in the morning.

At first, it is understandable to feel unmotivated or “too tired” to exercise in the morning but you do not need to run a marathon to get enough exercise to positively influence your day. Start with 10-15 minutes of stretching and you will feel the benefits almost immediately.

If you are extra motivated in the morning, HIIT cardio is an excellent way to begin your day.

4. nutrition

You’ve most likely heard that breakfast is the single most important meal of the day, turns out that’s true. Eating early in the day will jumpstart your metabolism and provide you with the energy needed to start your day.

It is important to consider what you are consuming for breakfast. Eating the wrong foods could actually have the exact opposite effect and make you ill. Try to incorporate fresh fruits, proteins, and healthy fats.

Consider supplementing any deficiencies with daily vitamins and probiotics to ensure your body has all the proper nutrients for all-day health.

5. cold showers

A cold shower is any shower with a water temperature of 70°F or below. The benefits of introducing cold showers into your morning routine are often overlooked. Besides the immediate wake-up call you get as the water touches your skin, the mental health benefits are incredible. Cold showers increase endorphins, the chemical produced by the body to relieve pain and stress. For anybody that struggles with depression or anxiety, this can be an extremely powerful habit to add to your routine.

Cold showers can also increase circulation, improve metabolism and help fight off common illnesses.

6. write

Dump your thoughts onto a piece of paper or into your favorite note-taking app to empty your mind and eliminate any negative thoughts you might be carrying into the day. Write down last night’s dream, leave a note for your significant other, vent about a problem you’re facing, whatever it is, just put it in writing. The goal is to create clarity of thinking.

I recommend getting a journal and taking advantage of this time to set 1-2 goals that you would like to achieve each day and 1-2 things that you are currently grateful for. Focusing on gratitude and goal setting is simple but has a powerful effect on your mental health.

7. prepare the night before

The secret to a great morning routine is starting the night before. It is one of the simplest habits to form, it is also extremely beneficial.

Are you struggling finding something to wear? To eliminate the stress of getting ready in the morning, we recommend a capsule wardrobe.

Decide what you are going to wear, fill your water bottle, pack your bag, everything you can accomplish the night before will leave less for you to do the next morning. This will free up valuable time and makes getting ready in the morning feel seamless.
